With the Holidays quickly approaching, it’s time to start thinking about what to gift your loved ones with however you celebrate. After working in retail for years and even experiencing the highly anticipated Black Friday from the other side of the register, I am a huge advocate of purchasing my gifts ELSEWHERE. No offense to all my beloved mall retailers, but the Black Friday deals aren’t worth the headache from the masses of intense shoppers out and about on their missions to acquire the perfect gift at the perfect price. And for the most part, since the uprise of Cyber Monday, amazing deals can be found from the same retailers, plus those not in reach, from the comfort of your own home. AND…with breakthrough discounted designer shopping destinations such as MYHABIT (shameless plug) and the like, online shoppers have access to some of the most desirable names in fashion at their fingertips.
To help you, my beloved readers, with your holiday shopping agendas, I’ve decided to compile a special shopping feature highlighting some amazing places to shop by both locally and online.
There’s always at least one person on your list that poses a challenge. One of my go-to gifts for that dilemma is a unique accessory or piece of jewelry. And wouldn’t you know, we have some fabulous local designers right here in our back yard!
AUDREYESQUE by Robin Ewers For any of your girlfriends, sisters, mothers and more: the Audreyesque Eyeconic necklaces are a great gift. Priced at only $20, these hand painted tile necklaces are unique as each one has been broken by hand so you’re sure to have a one of a kind. Strung on leather cording, you can wear it long or request to have it shortened to your specifications. Another option are the hand painted Audreyesque Eyeconic shoes. Each heel is painted by hand with 1 of 3 current designs featuring the eyes of classic women such as Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra. At $129.99, you will be getting a unique hand painted pair of shoes and free touch ups for one year.
I love Robin’s work, from her hand painted stationary to her new Audreyesque Luxe collection of shoes, every piece is so eye catching!
Robin even took a second to share a bit about her holiday season with me… “My favorite thing about the holidays is getting the first fluffy snow and sitting by a fireplace. I love giving gifts because I usually hand make them all and I love to see their faces when they open it up!“
THE NECKALINA by KaVatee Okay, if you are looking for a truly one of a kind, can’t buy this anywhere else, totally practical, and every girl should have one gift…look no further! The Necklina is one of the most amazing accessories I have ever had in my closet. Gone are the days of having to decide the victor of between necklace vs. scarf or attempting to do both and then being incredibly frustrated later because they just don’t play nicely together. The Necklina is the perfect solution! (PS-I have the black one!)
DISCOTOES by Megan Schmidt Megan loves creating and giving one of a kind gifts to family and friends because it shows she puts a lot of love into the present. The custom designs and hand placed stones on a pair of Discotoes shoes are a wonderful way to surprise your favorite gal with a special and thoughtful gift. Starting at $150, she’ll work with you to turn your ideas into a beautiful pair of shoes. Designs and colors are limitless, but take a look at the gallery for some ideas to start you off. She’s also happy to offer gift certificates to allow the recipient to design the shoes of her dreams.
What Megan loves about the holiday season…“Since I have moved out of my home state of Texas where my family lives, I look forward to the holidays more than ever. We spend the majority of our time watching College Football bowl games, cooking, and spending time around a fire. I’m a country girl at heart and I love the chance to relax and get back to my roots. My favorite holiday memory is a story that gets told every year by my Mom and my Aunt. It involved their Aunt Hazel (who was known to be quite the character) and a time at Midnight Mass when the offering basket got stuck in her hair net. From what I have been told, it involved a lot of disruption on the part of their Aunt and a lot of giggling on the part of my Mom and her Sister. I love hearing the story as much as they love telling it.”
